Cowboy Cauldron Bear Fat
Inspired by the protective formulas used by 13th-century blacksmiths, Cowboy Cauldron Bear Fat is a natural, long-lasting finish designed to guard your Cauldron basin and other gear from the elements. While traditional blacksmiths didn’t have metal paint, they relied on a base formula to shield their work—our Bear Fat adapts that timeless recipe into a safer and more durable solution.
Ideal for maintaining the outer shell of your Cauldron, Bear Fat restores a beautiful black patina quickly and effectively—think of it as the equivalent of rubbing bacon grease on cast iron cookware. It’s perfect for preventing rust and scaling, keeping your basin in top shape with simple rag application.
Beyond your Cauldron, Bear Fat is also excellent for conditioning leather gloves and boots, protecting wooden tool handles, and refreshing waxed cotton garments like Filson jackets.
Bear in mind, despite its name, this product contains no actual bear fat. It’s entirely natural but not edible.

Cowboy Cauldron Warranty
A Cowboy Cauldron is meant to last. They are also meant to be loved. If you order a Cauldron from us and don’t like it, you can return it to us within 60 days for a full refund, no questions asked. Yes, it is a gamble that you might have to bear return shipping charges, but so far we have sold thousands of Cauldrons, and only had one come back. It’s a pretty safe bet .
All Cauldrons are unconditionally warranted for one year from the date of purchase.
Replacement parts are seldom requested, but are of course available. Most replacements come from parts being lost or destroyed (e.g running over a grill). If you are using a Cauldron so much that you actually wear something out (and it won’t be the basin, we can assure you) know that we are here to take care of you.
FAQs
What is the height of each Cauldron size?
You can see a chart comparing the height of each Cauldron unit on each product page. This is to give you a sense of scale. Know that your height may vary slightly if you place the tripod legs on a firm foundation compared to a softer foundation -- such a grass, sand, or gravel.
What is the thickness of the steel on each Cauldron basin?
The Ranch Boss has solid 1/4” plate steel.
The Wrangler is 7/32”,
The Urban Cowboy and The Dude have 3/16” steel basins.
How do I keep rain out of my Cauldron?
Great question! Every Cowboy Cauldron comes standard with a rain cover (vinyl cover for The Dude and Urban Cowboy, hard cover for The Wrangler and Ranch Boss).
Your best option is to place the grill atop the basin and then place the rain cover atop the grill. Clip in both sides of the rain cover and the tilt the basin on the hook and handle about 3-4". This will let the basin rest at a slight angle for rain to run off in a easy manner.

Where are Cowboy Cauldrons made?
Our largest models, The Wrangler and The Ranch Boss, are made in Salt Lake City, Utah. The smaller models, The Dude and The Urban Cowboy, are made by our production partner in China. The materials, construction, and finish are the same on all domestic and imported Cowboy Cauldrons.
I'm not sure which Cauldron is best for me. How do I decide?
We have a comparison of all sizes and graphic elements that illustrate the footprint of each Cauldron. No two Cauldrons are made to accomplish the same tasks, but rather fit different applications and lifestyles.
